Intro (Begynnelsen av en konflikt)

Okay so I've been working pretty hard with the Tiger Assault Pageant comic read-along. I've done the first 4 frames of the comic and I'll show you them with and without text.
On the first two I've used PS techniques I've been using all along. On the second two I decided to try using a more painterly approach and I think they turned out pretty well.

Bear in mind that the script is not meant to be taken seriously. This is not the opening cutscene from some overly-serious video-game, we are indeed aware that we are talking about tigers fighting cyborgs, robots etc.

crits are welcome. Now for the image storm.

An Incursion

So I finally finished this piece titled: "Incursion by Defilers". I'm not totally happy with the turnout but I'm too frustrated with this piece to keep working on it. I'll be mostly working on Tiger Assault Pageant work in the future because of how much work is going to go into this comic but keep on the lookout for more of my concept art work. I'll hopefully be posting some environments and maybe some character and creature design in the future.

My publications on dragons are currently delayed due to my current projects for school.

Tiger Explosion

Okay, here's the frame. This picture goes out to Josh Morrow. It belongs in the Tiger Assault Pageant comic in Act II. I'm working on frames for act I and once I have the first few pages done I'll be emailing those to Josh to add text. Then I'll be posting those for all a y'all (by which I mean you 5 people who follow me).

Its Time for the Assault

Okay. This is a work in progress that's in its early stages and you'll have to forgive me for a few things that just look plain sloppy on this one. Its an illustration that will either go in the album booklet or within the graphic novel/comic series for Tiger Assault Pageant, the intense progressive musical duo. The band focuses on intense instrumentals and progressive melodies which are accented by heavily mastered vocal tracks regarding the tiger uprising and their alliance with dragons to destroy their political tyrants and their subsequent assault on the giant space empire of robots.

This image is of one of the tiger captains wailing on guitar in front of an entire battalion of robots he just exploded. It will probably describe this battle in Act 2 of their album/comic read-along. Likely in the song "Illumine these Dead Androids Part III (The Savage Barrage)".

So fucking progressive.

Almost There

After a few frustrating hours I'm still struggling with this guy. I'm pretty happy with how the fissure turned out but getting the background elements to look good has been hellish. Things that still need work: The fire and surrounding glow, maybe more on the clouds, the motherfucking grass. Its also a lot harder to do atmospheric perspective (similar to the landscape featured in post #1) when you're doing a night scene... with a fire in the background.

Very soon I will embark on a journey into the world of Okami. I may not be able to do anything else for while.

Neukold

I'm getting close to finishing this drawing. Its been devouring my free time but I'm loving working on this one and I'm thinking of maybe turning it into a series. Suggestions are always welcome. Things I'm still working are obviously: the grass itself, shadows, atmospheric perspective for the background, the fissure (and lighting within) and then its just a case of tweaking everything. Sorry about the lack of new work today, this is my primary right now.

Peace n' Tea,
Simon Sweetman

P.S. To professor Klondike, I'm currently finishing my research on the Dream Dragon theories for the moment and I will begin on working on my publications for you.

This Station is Now Operational

Hey there. For those of you who are familiar with any of my previous work I have done a couple of pieces relating to awkward moments in public washrooms. I have just started a 6-12 part series of mylars on the topic. So I'll be really busy with that over the next couple of weeks so I developments may be few and far between. Here are a couple of updates on some works in progress. I've only had a chance to work for about an hour today but we'll see where I'm at this weekend.

Here is the beginnings on the colour version of my self portrait. Its really rough so far. The wyrm I'm riding on will later feature scale patterning and I myself will look less... shitty later. The second drawing is the the drawing I showed you guys yesterday, its got background now. Albiet a really unfinished background but background nonetheless. I'll be fixing up those odd white bits outlining the beast itself in the near future but that's for a later time.

I'm also currently in the works on some drawings for Tiger Assault Pageant. They're a really overly progressive band that's so progressive that most of it is just noises. Anyway, I'll be posting some progress shots on those soon enough.

Abdulmajid

Hey Folks,

Here is a cropped version of a drawing I'm working on. This is the main portion of the drawing. More to come of it later. I'd show the entire image but its so unfinished (like, some of it isn't started) that I would rather not. This guy isn't finished either though I've spent the last many an hour doing the details of 'im. Not exactly sure where this one came from, but I've been listening to a lot of Philip Glass lately and this was fairly heavily inspired, in mood, by the 'Heroes' and 'Lows' albums.

I'll keep you guys posted on this drawing as it unfolds, its my main project of the moment (which isn't really a good thing considering I need to work on a series of drawings, a painting and a host of other little things for actual classes) so it'll be in development a lot faster than the others.

Hopefully we'll get some dragons up here soon enough.

Hello from the dragon

Hello people who give a shit.

I've set this blog up as a place where I can throw up all the things I've thrown up with my wacom tablet and limited photoshop skills. Most of the work I will be putting up here will be works in progress, and a good deal of it will never be finished.

One of my potential futures includes an interest in concept art. As an avid gamer, being a part of that world in which I would be able to exercise my drawing abilities in conjunction with the creation of a complete work could be a great experience for me. As a result, a lot of the stuff you'll see me putting up are works in progress to be eventually added to my portfolio of concept art.

One may note that the title of this blog is 'May Contain Dragons'. As both a doctor of Dragonology and an artist you will find that dragons frequent my drawings.

Here are a few of my illustrated works that are not yet completed:

This little guy is from a series of drawings I'm putting together called 'Project Galaxy'. It's a series of drawings all down in a cartoony spacey way, mostly starring this turquoise guy. The second drawing in the series was completed but scrapped for the crime of looking like shit.

This was one of my first attempts at doing landscape entirely tablet-based. I'm still not finished with it, there are a lot of things I need to tweak still and I'm only just getting used to using colour for this type of thing. I''ll need to put another 4 hours into this one at least.

This guy I've put at least 12 hours of work into. I'm fairly happy with the result, being the first real long-term tablet work I've done. Heavily inspired by both many images of Bahamut and Shadow of the Colossus. I may convert him into colour when I have a better grasp on it.

The next three are all drawings I did for Bored Stiff. They're a Toronto-based Hardcore band who are fast, hard and will break your face in. You can check their shit out here. I'm good buddies with the lead singer D'Arcy and they thought a series of drawings I did titled 'Monster' from back in my punk rock days was cool enough to have as the album cover for their demos. I've been doing shit for them since. I haven't done anything new for them in a while, but here are a few things I did for them in the past 6 or 7 months.

Thanks for reading
